why leather is the best choice for hats.

If you’re putting a patch on a hat in Texas, you have to be careful. Hats get a lot of abuse. People drop them in the dirt. They leave them on the dashboard of a hot truck. They sweat in them all summer long. Regular patches get gross. Leather doesn’t.

it looks expensive and stays tough.

Leather is the only material that looks “high-end” and “blue-collar” at the same time. It has a premium look that makes a $5 hat look like a $50 hat. But don’t let the looks fool you. It’s as tough as a pair of work boots. It won’t rip. It won’t tear. It acts like a shield on the front of your cap.

it handles the hot houston sun.

Most patches fade. The sun in Houston is brutal. It bleaches out cheap colored thread in weeks. Leather is different. It was born in the sun. Our genuine hides don’t lose their color. They don’t turn white. They handle the UV rays and the 100-degree days without breaking a sweat.

it gets better as it gets older.

This is the best part. Most things look worse as they get old. Leather is the opposite. As it gets rained on, sweated on, and used, it develops a “patina.” That means it gets darker and smoother. It starts to tell a story. A leather patch that’s two years old looks even better than it did on day one.

choose your leather type.

We keep two main types of material in the shop. Both are tough. Both look great. Pick the one that fits your job.

real genuine leather (classic & rugged).

This is the real deal. It’s made from cowhide. It has natural marks and a unique grain. Every patch is slightly different because every cow is different. It smells amazing. It’s thick. It’s the top choice for ranchers, oil field workers, and high-end brands who want the most authentic look possible.

faux leather (soft & many colors).

Some people call this “vegan leather.” It’s a man-made material that looks and feels like the real thing. It’s very consistent. If you need 500 patches to look 100% exactly the same, this is a great choice. It also comes in many colors. We can do grey, black, tan, or even blue. It’s easy to clean and stays soft forever.

two ways we put your logo on leather.

We don’t use ink. We don’t use needles. We use heat and pressure.

Laser engraved leather patch featuring a detailed tree logo and Bartlett brand name.

laser engraving (burned into the leather).

We use a high-power CNC laser. It’s like a tiny, focused sun. It carves a path directly into the hide. This gives you amazing detail for tiny text and thin lines that would be impossible with thread.

Custom debossed leather patch featuring recessed Garant Boats and Yachts logo.

debossing (pressed into the leather).

We build a metal “die” of your logo. We heat the metal and use a heavy press to slam it into the leather. It squishes the fibers down for a deep, 3D look. It’s a very clean, high-end look.

how to attach your leather patches.

A patch is only good if it stays on. We have three ways to make sure it never moves.

  • Back of a leather patch displaying an industrial 3M peel-and-stick adhesive backing, ideal for hard hats.

    strong stickers for hard hats.

  • Embossed brown workwear leather patch detailing a deep perimeter stitch groove designed specifically for sew-on applications.

    sew-on for permanent workwear.

  • Back of a brown leather patch featuring a sewn-on black tactical Velcro hook backing for interchangeable use.

    velcro for tactical gear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do colors on leather?

Leather is usually shades of brown, tan, or black. The “color” of your logo comes from the burn. If you want bright reds or blues, we recommend our rubber patches. Leather is for people who want a classic, natural look.

What is the smallest order I can make?

We have a 10-patch minimum. Why? Because setting up the laser and picking the hide takes a lot of time. We want to give you the best price, and bulk is the only way to do that.

Will the leather stain my hat?

No. We use treated leathers that won’t bleed when they get wet. You can get caught in a Houston thunderstorm and your hat will be fine.

How do I clean my leather patch?

Don’t use harsh chemicals. Just wipe it with a damp cloth. Leather likes to be left alone. Let it do its thing.
